Heart racing in your chest, you summon all the courage you can muster and carefully approach the creature. It notices you, cocks its giant, scaly head, and waits to see what you’re going to do.
You reach the peanuts, gingerly pick one of the bags up off the ground, and open it.
“They’re a treat,” you say, reaching into the bag and plucking a few fresh roasted peanuts still in their shells. They smell good, and are warm in your hand. The dragon seems to recognize them as a type of food, and slowly opens its mouth, revealing not only sharp teeth, but a wet, forked tongue.
Careful to use an underhand motion as to not seem threatening, you toss a few peanuts into the dragon's waiting mouth.
It swallows. It seems pleased.
All around you, people are staring. Have you truly been successful in appeasing the beast?
“Would you like some more?” you ask.
It does.
And before you can make another motion, it leaps toward you, mouth agape, gobbling up you and the peanuts in a single bite.
You showed bravery, but no problem this large can be solved by mere peanuts.
